Kalaw, an old hill station during British colonial times with fantasitc views and refreshing climate, is the ideal starting point for a 2- or 3-day track to Inle Lake.
An other highlight with just a 15 min walk out of town is the fascinating Shwe Oo Min Pagoda, a cave with golden guilded Buddha images inside.
